NFL Recap: Denver Narrowly Beat Struggling Jets in Defensive Affair
During a low-scoring contest this weekend, the Broncos clinched a 13-11 victory over the struggling New York Jets. Signal-caller Bo Nix connected on a first-quarter scoring strike and kicker Wil Lutz provided the late go-ahead field goal to secure the ugly win.
Dominant Performance Wins Contest
Despite registering nine sacks versus Jets QB Justin Fields, the Broncos were behind 11-10 after conceding a two-point play in the third quarter. Interestingly, the Jets managed just 82 total net yards throughout the contest.
The Denver quarterback, who went 19 of 30 passes for 174 yards, led a decisive 12-play, 65-yard possession that ended with Lutz's short kick with approximately five minutes left.
Historic Difficulties for Jets Attack
In spite of their horrendous performance, the Jets still had possession with a chance to drive for a possible victory. However Fields was sacked on fourth-and-eight from the Denver 44 when head coach Aaron Glenn opted to go for it rather than calling on specialist Nick Folk for a long field-goal attempt.
Fields struggled throughout, completing just 9 of 17 passes for 45 yards. The Jets ended up with negative ten passing yards, the lowest in any game since 1998.
"Our passing game was completely absent," the coach stated following the game.
